MAYOR BLOOMBERG WANTS WORLD TO STOP SMOKING
Mayor Bloomberg declared in a 12-minute address to a special session of the United Nations General Assembly dealing with the prevention and control of non-communicable diseases.
Mayor Bloomberg called for a worldwide offensive approach against smoking in his speech to the United Nations, where he urged delegates to follow the city’s lead in taking on global tobacco corporations.
Bloomberg says, ” the tobacco industry is an evil enterprise out to hook the poor before government can respond with stricter smoking laws, leading to wholesale deaths.”
Bloomberg continues to install fear, ” 7.5 million deaths tied to smoking by the end of the decade, with 80% clustered in poor countries where tobacco giants use marketing briskly.”
Most of the mayor’s remarks were focused on what NYC has done to improve health outcomes and how those efforts can serve as blueprints for governments around the world.
